TRANSPORTATION
Will school bus routes, emergency response times and local travel be impaired by road closures? Will that lead to increased crashes and increased costs to local governments and businesses?  Will highway crashes increase in Southwest Indiana?

I-69 will lead to significant overall reductions in highway crashes and transportation costs.  For example, over a 20-year period, the construction of I-69 will result in 40,000 fewer serious injuries from highway crashes.  This is equivalent to the entire populations of Bloomfield, Linton, Martinsville, Oakland City, Petersburg, and Washington foregoing a trip to the emergency room.

The staff in each Tier 2 project office will work very closely with local communities regarding school bus access, emergency response access, and other local access issues.  In Tier 2 studies, consideration of these issues is an import factor in determining the location of overpasses, frontage roads, and other access features.  While there will be some trips which will take longer, I-69 will result in a significant increase in overall personal mobility.  There also will be a significant increase in highway safety due to I-69.  (Updated 11/14/07)
